One thing that I do that many people don’t get is buy only a half tank of gas at a time whenever I make a pit stop at the gas station. Obviously, it doesn’t matter whether I buy a half tank (or a full tank) each time, as all that means is I have to go more often (or less) and inconvenience myself with spending another 15 minutes at the gas station every week.

However, what I have found is that I use less gas when I know I don’t have as much in the tank. Psychologically, it makes me feel better when I see the meter show a $20 charge at the pump as opposed to $50 even if it’s only half a tank. And while I haven’t tracked exactly how much I do end up paying for gas each month, I suspect that I am using less… or at least it feels that way.
And that feels good.
Of course, aside from cutting down on usage, seeking the best price in your area is ultimately the best way to save money on gas. One of the best sources of gas prices in your area is GasBuddy.com. GasBuddy.com can help you find cheap gas prices in your city. It is a network of more than 181 gas price information websites and has the most comprehensive listing of gas prices on the web. GasBuddy.com provides a very useful interactive map showing where gas prices are increasing or decreasing across the country. The map will also help you find the cheapest prices in your zip code.
Remember, cheaper prices are helpful, but the best way to reduce your gas bill is to use less of it.
