Cheap Eats with Yelp

We all have to eat, but to eat well doesn’t require having to spend an exorbitant amount of money. One website I am a big fan of is Yelp. While I would classify myself as an ordinary user of the site, my significant other (S.O.) is a true die-hard “Yelper” as they call it.
If you’re not aware of the culture that this site has created, you should start to learn more about it. Fans of the site post reviews on not just restaurants, but of places to visit, stores to shop at, even stuff related to day-to-day life like plumbers and handymen.
My S.O. and I check out restaurant reviews religiously on Yelp before we head out to lunch or dinner on the weekends. We look for places that offer good food at great prices, and sure we’ll occasionally go to a four $$$$ restaurant. Either way, we look to ensure that the place we go to is one that we’ll be satisfied with.
While Yelp is not the end-all, be-all when it comes to food review places (others I know of include CitySearch and FoodBuzz), I have found the reviewers to be mostly on target with my own taste. The other thing I like, which my S.O. has introduced me to, is the community aspect of the site. I have met a number of new friends at so-called PYEs (private Yelp events) and UYEs (unofficial Yelp events). It’s been great going to these events, meeting new afficionados of food, and being able to enjoy ourselves based on a common passion for food. One benefit to these events is that with a larger party, you can try a wider variety of dishes, and still make it affordable for each person.
But back to the main topic of this post: cheap eats. Yelp has allowed me to find excellent food at very reasonable prices. One Yelper whom I have come to know has created a list of “cheap eats” in the West Los Angeles area (which is where my S.O. and I live). Check out Yelp to find the best “cheap eats” in your area as well.
Are there any great food sites that you know of? Send me a note with your favorite food sites.
